Study revises theory of how brain works

University of Bonn scientists said they found the passing of information from neuron to neuron doesn\’t occur exclusively at the synapses. They said it seems neurons release their chemical messengers along the entire length of the extensions and, in this way, excite the neighboring cells.

The finding is said to be of huge significance since it explodes fundamental notions about the way our brain works and might lead to the development of new drugs.

The study appears online in the journal Nature Neuroscience and will soon be published in the print edition.
